Swanderful memories at The Swan Hotel

Kimberley and Sam

Planning your wedding is no easy task. From choosing your venue, your dress, the suits, who will be bridesmaids, best man, the cake, will it be chicken or beef, all way right down to the little details of which font will go onto the place cards for the table plan!

I like to send out a few questions to my brides and grooms about a month before the big day to get to know them a little and to find out which lovely suppliers they’ve asked to help make their day so special.

Kim and Sam tied the knot at the beautiful little church, St John the Baptist in Old Hutton, before celebrating at the historic and stylish Swan Hotel located on the banks of the River Leven.

The Swan Hotel has quickly become one of my very favourite wedding venues. Up until this year I’d never been. Kim and Sam’s wedding is now the 3rd time in 9 months. I can’t want for the next one. I’ve written about the hotel before, but here’s a bit more…….
The Swan started life in the 17th century as a coaching inn, but has evolved dramatically since then. Today, it has plenty to recommend it – stylish decoration, delicious food, a spoiling spa and health club (including a pool) and children’s indoor and outdoor play areas. After suffering flood damage in December 2015, it underwent a stunning refurbishment and reopened in 2016, with walls freshly painted in vibrant colours or covered in jazzy statement paper. The look is elegant country style, with wood floors and rustic furniture.

Hannah works tirelessly with her team to make sure that brides and grooms have the most ‘swanderful’ memories with top class service.

This was a day filled with so many happy moments, fun with lots and lots of laughter…….. oh, lots of rain and a beautiful sunset once the rain cleared.

Here’s Kim and Sam’s wedding story.

Where and when did you get engaged? Tell me what happened?

4/9/18 – on Kimberley’s birthday at our favourite sea club in Mallorca at dinner.

Why did you choose your wedding date?

The weather is still nice in September but not too hot – its our favourite time of year.

Why did you choose your venue?

Kimberley was born in the Lakes and Christened at Old Hutton Church. We also spend a lot of time at the Swan during our relationship and when visiting family.

Do you have a special “theme”/ style for your wedding? Why did you pick this theme/ style?

Not really – the Barn at the Swan is fairly rustic so décor needed to fit with this. A theme wasn’t really chosen on purpose!

What is your wedding colour scheme? Why did you choose it?

Navy blue – it is one of our favourite colours

What sort of dress/outfit did you choose and where from? Why did you choose it?

Fitted mermaid dress with a lace chapel train from Enzoani purchased from Charlotte Baker Bridal in Lichfield. I chose it because it’s simple and the detail in the back and train is really pretty and interesting for when standing in Church.

What has your partner chosen to wear?

Grey 3 piece suit with purple tie from Peter Posh.

What are your bridesmaids/ groomsmen going to wear and where from?

Groomsmen are wearing matching suits to Groom from Peter Posh. Bridesmaids are wearing navy blue dresses with lace mesh overlay from ASOS.

How will you travel on the day? If the transport is hired, where is it from?

Own Cars

What flowers have you chosen, if any? Who is providing them?

White roses, eucalyptus, thistles and others. Sort of informal looking bouquet. Flowers are from Bluebell and Ivy.

What flowers and decorations have you chosen for the wedding reception? Who is providing them or helping you?

Table flowers will be gyp and other wildflowers, Kimberley’s mum and step father will help with these.

Are you giving out favours? If so, what?

Grasmere Gingerbread

What cake have you chosen? Who is making it?

There’s no cake – we’re not really cake or traditional people!

Who have you chosen for beauty (Makeup and Hair)

Lauren Poole for make up and Lydia’s Hair Studio

What food/ wines have you choose? Why?

Mojitos for the welcome reception as our favourite cocktail and what we were drinking when we got engaged! Pig of the day for dinner as it was the most interesting option. Bacon sandwiches, fish finger sandwiches, sausage sandwiches for evening snacks because it was a fun choice.

What entertainment have you chosen?

DJ from DFC and Pier Fun Casino.
