Lorraine and Vinny’s story.

Planning your wedding is no easy task. From choosing your venue, your dress, the suits, who will be bridesmaids, best man, the cake, will it be chicken or beef, all way right down to the little details of which font will go onto the place cards for the table plan!

I like to send out a few questions to my brides and grooms about a month before the big day to get to know them a little and to find out which lovely suppliers they’ve asked to help make their day so special.

Lorraine and Vinny tied the knot and then celebrated with family and friends at the historic Midland Hotel Manchester.

The Midland Hotel has a somewhat colourful history. First opened by The Midland railway company to serve Manchester Central railway station, but has since served some amazing names. kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers and rock stars have all passed through the front doors. It’s where Mr Rolls met with Mr Royce, Mr and Mrs Beckham had their first date and Winston Churchill ate quite a few Oysters on his stay. It was the first in Manchester to receive a Michelin star in 1974.

And here, The Midland hosted a special and emotional day for Lorraine and Vinny. So many happy moments, fun with lots and lots of laughter.

Here’s Lorraine and Vinny’s wedding story.

Where and when did you get engaged? Tell me what happened?

We got engaged on Lorraine’s 50th birthday at Alberts Shed in Mcr, Vin proposed with dessert at the end of the meal.

Why did you choose your wedding date?

It’s the nearest Saturday to my beautiful Mum’s birthday. We both also love Autumn and the colours Autumn.

Why did you choose your venue?

The Midland Hotel holds a lot of dear memories for me, I went there with my Mum many times for afternoon tea, drinks, and also spent many happy times there celebrating birthdays and many other occasions over the year. Vin and I also love the building, it has a great presence in the City Centre (which we both love) and is stacked in history.

Do you have a special “theme”/ style for your wedding? Why did you pick this theme/ style?

No theme or styles for the wedding, we just want everyone to come along have fun and celebrate with us.

What is your wedding colour scheme? Why did you choose it?

Burgundy, cream, white, navy and blush pink. Lorraine loves these colours and burgundy is a great Autumn colour.

What sort of dress/outfit did you choose and where from? Why did you choose it?

I have a long fit and flare wedding dress by Ronald Joyce The Victoria Jane collection. I bought the dress from The Confetti Box in Eccles, it’s a family run business, the ladies are so helpful. This wasn’t the dress I had gone into the shop try on but was one that the sales assistant asked me to try on and I fell in love with it, it sparkles as I walk……. I started crying.

What has your partner chosen to wear?

Vin has a navy suit and grey waistcoat from the Saville row tailors in York Designer Outlet Village

What are your bridesmaids/ groomsmen going to wear and where from?

Bridesmaids are wearing burgundy long, fitted dresses. Maid of Honour is wearing a navy calf length dress The best man is wearing a navy suite.

How will you travel on the day? If the transport is hired, where is it from?

I will be travelling in a white stretch limo, with my Maid of Honour (my sister Andrea) and two bridesmaids (my nieces Bethany and Abbey)…….and a bottle of champagne.

What flowers have you chosen, if any? Who is providing them?

I have an abundance of flowers planned for the day, we both love flowers, Vin works in the flower industry. We are going for very soft and gentle flowers in creams, whites, blush pink, with tiny burgundy roses. The floral displays and bouquets are being made by Louise and Kathryn friends of Vin.

What flowers and decorations have you chosen for the wedding reception? Who is providing them or helping you?

Centre pieces for the wedding breakfast tables, long and low display for the bride and grooms table, candles will be dotted throughout the flower displays to create a beautiful romantic atmosphere. All provided by Louise and Kathryn

Are you giving out favours? If so, what?

We’ve had perfume and aftershave made for our guests which will be attached to a thank you card.

What cake have you chosen? Who is making it?

We have a three tier cake being made by Slatteries, the cake is white with a cream ribbon and flowers to match the colour scheme. Each tier is a different flavour, chocolate orange, lemon drizzle, red velvet.

Who have you chosen for beauty (Makeup and Hair)

Jo (my hairdresser) is doing my hair and I am doing my own makeup with the help of my two nieces (my bridesmaid)

What food/ wines have you choose? Why?

For the wedding breakfast we have chosen – Starter: smoked haddock fishcakes with creamed leaks and flat parsley. Main: Pancetta and garlic stuffed chicken, dauphinoise potatoes, braised Savoy cabbage and fine beans. Dessert: Sicilian lemon tart and blackcurrant sorbet. These dishes were our favourites when we tasted the menu at The Midland. We also have an evening buffet.

What entertainment have you chosen?

Harpist for the wedding ceremony. DJ, Magician and Selfie Mirror in the evening

What other “special touches” have you added to your day?

I have a silver heart locket attached to my bouquet with pictures of my mum and dad, so they are with me on the day, my mum has passed away, my dad is still alive but is old and frail so is not able to attend.

Anything else I should know?

We are taking dancing lesson so that we can hopefully dance properly to our first dance, no one knows about this, not even the wedding party, we are ‘hopefully’ going to surprise everyone.
