Jodi and Jack’s awesome pre wedding photoshoot at an abandoned powerstation

I have known Jodi since our school days and being asked to photograph her and Jack’s big day was a privilege that I was more than happy to accept.

As with all my wedding clients, before we get to the big day, I always like to organise a pre wedding photoshoot, this relaxes couples, gives us a chance to get to know each other and ensures a much better rapport on the wedding day.   First big decision was around the location for the shoot – but this wasn’t an issue. The moment I showed Jodi my images from a recent visit of the old disused power station she knew it would be ideal.

The power station only had a brief life, built in 1954 and then closed by 1984. Since then most of the buildings where demolished including the cooling towers, but for some reason the control building was stripped and left. It didn’t take long until the graffiti started. There has been some truly fabulous art on the walls though most of it has since been covered over with less artful paint! Still very colourful it provides great backgrounds for photography.

On arrival we were greeted by a group already there and playing some kind of assault game with bb guns! There was no issue, they kept a look out for where we were and stayed well away, though we did borrow a gun to use as a prop before asking them to be on a couple of photos at the end.

During the photoshoot we made the most of all the opportunities for a variety of different backgrounds, probably too many if I tell the truth. It’s easy to get a little carried away when you’re having fun!

Here is a selection of photos from the shoot, I hope you enjoy them. If you would like a tour along with a portrait session just contact me and we can talk.

A special thanks to Paul ‘Cloggy’ Wilkinson for chaperoning us around the site and helping with equipment.
