Mitton Hall Wedding Photography

Bride and Groom at Mitton Hall

One of the very best wedding venues in Lancashire

Mitton Hall in Lancashire close to Whalley and Clitheroe has been one of my favourite wedding venues since 2012. I call myself very lucky to have been able to capture so many amazing wedding stories here over the years and each and every one has been fantastic to photograph.

A stunning country house hotel set in the heart of the Ribble Valley. The hall is just beautiful and the surrounding countryside is equally the same. A breathtaking venue both inside and out that just oozes romance.

The romance leads me to talk about the photography opportunities for your wedding day. It’s one of the rare venues that offers you such versatility for your photos weather your inside or out. So no matter what the weather is like, you never have to worry. It’s perfect for your wedding all year round.

The reason I love going to Mitton Hall…..

…..is for you and your wedding. I’ll go through all the reasons below but from my point of view and since my very first visit to the  Hall in 2012 it’s remained a firm favourite. There’s a reason why they win so many awards!

But First…

A little history lesson

Mitton Hall or to give its original name, Little Mitton Hall has history going back to the 1480’s, though it was not the first house on the site. The history of the site dates way back previous to the 12th century and there is a fabulous webpage with a lot of this history detailed. I’ll link it in the comments.Until 1974 the close by River Ribble was the boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire where on the Yorkshire side is Great Mitton Hall. It was only after 1974 that the boundary changed and both sides of the river became part of Lancashire and the name of the hall changed to ‘Mitton Hall’.I’ll let the images here do some speaking.

For more a much more detailed history I’ll leave a link at the bottom

Fabulous Staff

Mitton Hall has long been a favourite venue of mine, not least because of its beautiful setting but also because the staff are so welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The hall is run by James Places and this is true of all their venues. From arrival everyone is so welcoming and can’t do enough for you, they ensure that everything runs smoothly from start to finish. Attention to detail never falters and the kind of expert care you would expect for your special day is provided.

IT’S ALL IN THE Details

Incredible. This is a word that describes the inside of Mitton Hall. From entering via the entrance you’re instantly greeted with a stunning, but very cosy main hall. A large and real coal fire is surrounded by a classic open ceiling with a balcony in the most beautiful oak. It creates a really warm and cosy atmosphere for you and your guests even within the large space. There’s a grand piano and ample seating for your comfort. Just make sure you get on one of those really comfy sofa’s by the fire in the colder months. So homely and brilliant for your wedding photographs, especially your portraits as a newly married couple.

Happy Brides and Grooms

I have worked with Paul in my capacity as Wedding Co-ordinator / Function Manager at Mitton Hall a few times now and I always look forward to working with him.
He has such a relaxed nature that puts everyone at ease, which is key for such a big day.
He is very professional and personable and works incredibly well with our team as he knows how tight our timings can be.

I would highly recommend Paul Swift Photography to anyone who asked. 😃

Jen Porteous

Mitton Hall Function Manager

As someone who loves photographs, we wanted a wedding photographer who could create a journey of the whole day, someone who didn’t mind taking lots and lots of pictures.

Paul completely understood what we wanted when we met with him and couldn’t have done a more beautiful job of taking our wedding photographs in August 2019.

Paul’s previous experience at our wedding venue, Mitton Hall, allowed us to feel comfortable and confident that our photographs would be amazing.

Thank you Paul we would recommend you to any couple! 😊

Emily and Adam

Where do we start! It all begins with a competition, I entered online (which I won) followed by a complimentary photoshoot… and we went from there – leading to Paul being our chosen wedding photographer which was an easy choice given we had built a relationship.
Picking the correct photographer is very important and Paul took all that stress off our hands. Paul has such a relaxed nature that puts everyone at ease and this is very important for your big day. Nothing was too much trouble, he went that extra mile, and everything we asked of him was done without any issues.
We have to say though the pictures were exceptional and he has given us some amazing memories we will cherish forever.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Paul, he made us laugh throughout the day and clearly loves what he does.
Thank you, Paul.

Yvonne and Martin

We got married at Mitton Hall and Paul was our photographer.

From the initial phone call to the delivery of our album, we felt at ease.

He puts in the extra effort to find out about you and what you need. He gave us loads of helpful tips and ideas from years of experience.
We felt like everything was planned perfectly before and on the day.

He made such an impression that our Best Man booked him for his wedding, so we saw him again last year!

We hope to see him again one day in the future!

bridal preparations

Your preparations (should you be getting ready at the hall) are usually in the dressing room. A rather large room overlooking the front courtyard and I have heard many make-up artists mention that they love this room. It’s also loved by many brides and bridesmaids as you can secretly see who’s arriving. Once you’re ready the staff will transfer all of your belongings to the bridal suite for your to finish off getting ready – one of the moments you’ve so looked forward to. Getting into your dream wedding dress.

Wedding Celebrations

In real contrast is the newer refurbished part of the building. It’s bright, modern feeling and very accommodating. When laid out for the ceremony, the light from the huge expanse of windows floods onto you when you’re at the top of the aisle taking your vows. It’s not harsh light, just lovely and soft, perfect for you.
After the ceremony, it’s time for your drinks reception which usually takes place on the veranda or in the bar and main hall if the weather is being a bit hit and miss. Both are great for capturing all those natural moments whilst your guests congratulate you along with mingling, chatting, and laughing with each other.
When the time comes for revealing the orangery to you, now transformed into your dream wedding reception room. The top table flooded with light and beautifully lighting all the tables around the rest of the room. I’ve seen so many creatively styled and decorated tables in here.
Later, the room is transformed again for your evening reception. A rather large wooden dancefloor now appears for your first dance and then to dance the night away.

The hall is like having several venues in one for the day!

Beautiful Gardens.

This then brings me to the outside. The gardens at the back are simply beautiful, and of course private. Expertly mowed lawns, exquisite flower beds, and many pretty trees. There are stunning views across the Ribble Valley and River Ribble. With the rear garden being on the west of the building, there are stunning views of the sunset. However, don’t discount the front gardens. There are lots of little nice places for a quiet moment and photograph. But please don’t forget the inside of the hall. It’s beautiful.
