Formby Hall in Formby has been one of my favourite wedding venues since 2014. I call myself very lucky to have been able to witness and capture many wedding stories here and each and everyone has been fantastic to photograph.
Formby Hall is quite a large complex with it being a hotel, health spa, and golf course but that never stops the warm welcome.
There are a lot of photography opportunities for your wedding day in both the sunshine and rain. It’s perfect for your wedding all year round.

The reason I love going to FORMBY Hall…..
…..is for you and your wedding. I’ll go through all the reasons below but from my point of view and since my very first visit back in 2014 it’s remained a firm favourite.
But First…
A little history
Formby Hall is a 16th century manor house built for William Formby. There is evidence of occupation on the site back as far as the 12th century. It was home to the Formby family well into the 20th century before being derelict twice but during the 1990’s it was purchased by Mr Mike McComb and lovingly restored to its former glory for his family to live in.
Quite a lot of land was sold off to business’s and this is where Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa was formed. The golf club was established in 1996 and has held some prestigious events.
Following a £15 million development the clubhouse and existing 18 hole championship golf course added a 62 bedroom 4 star hotel, and a state of the art spa and health club.

Fabulous Staff
Formby Hall has long been a favourite venue of mine. The staff are so welcoming and friendly – along with the many ducks that live in and around all the ponds on the golf course. From arrival everyone is so welcoming and can’t do enough for you, they ensure that everything runs smoothly from start to finish. Attention to detail never falters and the kind of expert care you would expect for your special day is provided.
IT’S ALL IN THE Details
Most couples I speak to value a wedding venue with rooms available for the night before or the night of the wedding – but for both. With Formby having 62 rooms that should cater for your nearest and dearest to spend to the evening before and the day after with you. I know, the day after usually involves a bad head, but this can be remedied with a good breakfast and then a spa visit. Many talk about the spa being amazing the day before the wedding too.
A great feature is that the rooms can be tailored to your size of wedding. A smaller wedding of 30 guests can easily be accommodated without the rooms looking empty and on the flip side, the rooms can hold over 100 without looking cramped. The magical moving partitions are fabulous.

From the candid shots of guests and detailed studies of important details like flowers and rings to the classic portraits, you have created a beautifully balanced wedding album that we will cherish.
You brought a sense of calm professionalism with you when you walked through the door, and just got on with the job. It was very reassuring. You have an ability to calm and relax people in very unfamiliar situations – we are not all-natural models! But your efforts produced beautiful natural-looking pictures. You were well organised, punctual, smartly presented – small details, but so important when it comes to the big day. You were helpful when it was time to select pictures for the album. With such a huge choice of great shots, it was a difficult task. Thank you for your patience!

bridal preparations
Your preparations take place in excellent clean rooms. Some have large doors that open onto the patio, where you’ll meet the ducks and some are on the upper floors and simply huge.
Wedding Celebrations
Beautiful PHOTOGRAPHS.
This brings me onto the outside. There’s a very large golf course, so naturally you need to be carful on where you go – the last thing you want is a golf ball to the head spoiling your special day! Hence, there are designated spaces around the course for photography that are well maintained. There’s a path to a rockery and pretty garden area which looks different in every direction. During the later hours when the golfers have packed up and gone, there is a pond close by along with a bridge that’s good to visit. At the front of the building are buildings, some cover, and the driveway in is covered in beautiful trees – this makes an excellent area for a creative shot later on as the trees are lit.
We live in England, and as we know this means it rain on the odd occasion. If this is the case do not fear. An umbrella will help and there are plenty of places through the buildings to create some beautiful moments. For the family and group photos, these can be done in numerous places both inside and out.
